PRESS RELEASE

Pet Detective Non-Profit Needs Public's Help

Federal Way, Washington - May 19, 2010 - Missing Pet Partnership (MPP), a national nonprofit organization dedicated to helping families who've lost a pet, is in need of help. Although requests for assistance to search for lost dogs and cats have increased, donations have plummeted. The organization is at risk of closing their doors on July 1st if immediate donations of at least $6,000.00 are not received.

Founder and pet detective Kat Albrecht, who moved the organization to Federal Way in 2008, said the drop in donations couldn't have come at a worse time. "We finally have a great group of volunteer pet detectives and six search dogs trained to find lost pets. It's frustrating to know that thirteen years of hard work could come to an end." Although they have no staff, Missing Pet Partnership has managed to be highly successful in recovering lost pets. They recovered Roxie the blind lost cat in Maple Valley, tracked down a terrified Terrier name Thelma in Woodinville, and saved the life of a lost cat named Norm who nearly strangled to death when his collar became caught underneath a hot tub. (Owners of these recovered pets are available for interview)

Last July 4th, Missing Pet Partnership set up a booth at the Seattle Animal Shelter and offered free assistance to the public. They assisted thirty one families who had lost a dog or cat. The end results were that eighty percent of the lost dogs and eighty-one percent of the lost cats were all recovered. Missing Pet Partnership hopes to set up a similar booth this 4th of July at the Kent Animal Shelter. Volunteers would offer free neon lost pet posters, consultations, and the “tagging” of owner's cars with florescent markers to help mass market lost dogs. However, the lack of funding has put these plans in jeopardy. "It is tough being a start-up nonprofit in this economy," Albrecht said. It is not uncommon for Missing Pet Partnership to receive two calls a day from panicked people who are begging for help in recovering their lost pets. "Now we (MPP) are the ones begging for help. We're hoping that Seattle pet lovers will support our work and throw us a bone!" Donations of any amount can be made by sending a check or via PayPal on Missing Pet Partnership's web site at www.missingpetpartnership.org.

Missing Pet Partnership was founded in 2001 by Kat Albrecht, a former police detective-turned-pet detective. Albrecht made her dramatic entrance into pet detective work back in 1997 after she used a search-and-rescue dog to track down her missing police bloodhound. Since then, Kat has trained several other dogs and over 100 pet detectives to locate lost pets.
